Comments (...)

Area shoppers will have an opportunity to purchase unique and unusual Christmas gifts and, at the same time, support small producers in the United States and abroad at the Second annual International Holiday Market at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk.

Handcrafted gifts from Ten Thousand Villages, MayaWorks, Partners in Mission in Uganda and the Oaks Cherokee Indian Mission in Oklahoma will be available. Fair trade coffee, cocoa, tea and chocolate will be for sale, including attractive gift packages.

Also at the market, Somonauk’s largest bake sale will feature ethnic baked goods, coffee-break treats and gift-jar mixes.

Those attending will have the opportunity to contribute to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s Good Gifts program, including God’s Global Barnyard, an alternative giving program that inspires leadership, nourishes the hungry, heals the sick and responds to needs around the world.

The Holiday Market will be open from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 14 at the church, 235 S. Green St. in Somonauk. A luncheon will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; donations will benefit Our Sharing Pantry, the food pantry serving Somonauk, Leland and Sandwich, with donations up to $900 matched by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

Payment will be accepted by check or cash.
