Kishwaukee United Way Taste of the Vine Committee is putting the finishing touches on its annual wine tasting and silent auction, to be held from 5:30-8 p.m. Nov. 12 at St. Mary’s Memorial Hall at 322 Waterman St. in Sycamore.

According to a recent news release, the evening will offer a sampling of many varieties of wines, as well as catered cuisine to compliment the samplings. For those wishing to learn more about the subtle art of food and wine pairing in a friendly, relaxed setting, Louie Schoenburg from American Liquors will be on hand to offer expert advice. Local radio personality Dave Bavido will emcee the evening’s main event.

The United Way will offer its traditional gift basket silent auction featuring a large variety of locally donated baskets, which are assembled with products donated by local businesses and individuals.

Guests are invited to bid on the packaged items, including baskets featuring Disney tickets, autographed Chicago Bears memorabilia, Ideal Industries Electrician Tool Kit, romanance- and food-themed baskets, and many other offerings. Proceeds from the event, as well as money raised throughout the United Way campaign, will benefit Kishwaukee United Way’s 30 agencies serving DeKalb County residents.

“We hope to persuade people familiar with our event to return, and for people who may never have attended, we want to encourage them to come out and enjoy the gathering,” Heather Fritsch, chairwoman and board member, said in the release. “Taste of the Vine is set in a relaxed atmosphere where guests can bid on beautiful gifts, enjoy good food and drinks and have the ability to order holiday wine to have at home in time for upcoming seasonal get-togethers. The event is a great way to support community initiatives and have fun at the same time.”

The release said people can share an evening with friends, learn which wine is the best to serve with a Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner and go home with a great find from the silent auction.

Tickets can be purchased or reserved in advance for $25 by calling United Way at 815-756-7522 or at the door for $30.
