Flu clinics canceled after supplies run out

The Kane County Health Department has canceled its scheduled H1N1 flu vaccination clinics Monday and Nov. 9 because vaccine supplies have run out.
The department was able to vaccinate more than 10,000 people on Monday at the three clinics it set up, said Paul Kuehnert, executive director of the Kane County Health Department.
“However, going forward, I don’t see us receiving enough vaccine to be able to conduct the mass clinics that we had scheduled,” Kuehnert said.
Kuehnert said there are shortages of the H1N1 flu vaccine nationwide.
He advised residents to check the county’s Web page, www.kanehealth.com, for any updates on H1N1 vaccine availability in Kane County.
In addition, the VNA of Fox Valley has postponed all seasonal flu shot clinics scheduled now through Nov. 16 because of the lack of vaccine.
Residents can go to www.vnafoxvalley.org or call 630-978-2532 after Nov. 16 for an update on its seasonal flu shot clinic schedule.
In order to accommodate those who need the H1N1 flu vaccine the most, the health department has established an appointment system for its dispensing.
Kane County residents who fall into one of the priority groups listed below can call the appointment line at 630-444-3189 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to schedule appointments for H1N1 flu vaccinations.
Vaccinations will be given at Health Department’s offices, 1330 N. Highland Ave., Aurora, and 113 Grove Ave., Elgin, on Mondays and Thursdays.
The priority groups are:
• Pregnant women.
• Persons who live with or provide care for infants younger than six months old.
• Health-care and emergency medical services personnel.
• Those six months to 24 years old.
• Persons age 25 to 64 years old who have medical conditions that put them at a higher risk for influenza-related complications.
