SYCAMORE – A DeKalb man facing charges that stem from a Tuesday evening stabbing was being held Wednesday at the DeKalb County Jail on $200,000 bail.
Roy M. Jenkins III, 21, of the 1400 block of West Lincoln Highway in DeKalb was arrested and charged late Tuesday with two counts of aggravated battery and one count of armed violence. He would need to post $20,000, or 10 percent of his bail, in order to be released.
Police say that, during an argument around 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, Jenkins grabbed a knife and stabbed a 47-year-old victim. The two were fighting at Jenkins' residence in High Meadows Apartments, according to a written statement from the DeKalb Police Department.
The male victim was visiting Jenkins from Chicago, the statement said. He sustained several stab wounds and was taken by ambulance Tuesday to Kishwaukee Community Hospital, said DeKalb Police Lt. Gary Spangler.
"The injuries were serious but we were told they were not life-threatening," he said.
The victim had at least four wounds to his body from the knife, according to court documents, and the blade on the weapon was at least 4 inches long. The man was stabbed in the abdomen and neck, the documents said.
He was still undergoing medical treatment at KCH Wednesday afternoon; hospital staff said an updated patient status was not available. Jenkins suffered minor injuries that didn't require medical attention, Spangler said.
No charges are expected to be filed against the victim, who managed to take the knife from Jenkins during the argument. Two other witnesses were in the apartment at the time of the dispute, Spangler said.
Jenkins, the victim and both witnesses were in the parking lot of the apartment complex when police arrived, he said. Authorities were called to the scene by "a good samaritan who was assisting the witnesses," Spangler said.
Each aggravated battery charge is a Class 3 felony punishable by up to five years in prison. Armed violence is a Class X felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
Jenkins is next due back in court Nov. 12.
