KSO prepares tricks and treats

Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra will have a unique look when the musicians take the stage Friday for two free Halloween concerts at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Boutell Memorial Concert Hall in the Music Building at Northern Illinois University.
Boutell Hall is at 550 Lucinda Ave. in DeKalb.
Each section will sport a different costume theme and audience members are invited to dress for the occasion as well.
“Like every performance, it will be a night of tricks and treats,” said Ann Tucker, president of the KSO Board of Directors, in a news release. “This time, complete with unusual characters in the orchestra and in the audience.” In the past, the community has enthusiastically joined in, many arriving in costume for this spooky musical event. Trick-or-treaters will be greeted throughout the faculty wing of the building from 5-5:30 p.m.
The eerie masterpieces will include “Rosin Eating Zombies from Outer Space,” by Meyer; “In the Hall of the Mountain King,” by Grieg; Howard and Zimmer’s “The Dark Knight”; “Phantom of the Opera,” by Lloyd Webber; and “Danse Macabre” by Saint-Saens. These performances have been supported by Prairie View Dental of Sycamore
Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra is also supported by WNIU, WNIJ and the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
Named Orchestra of the Year by the Illinois Council of Orchestras, the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra is a nonprofit community group that has provided a venue for local musicians to showcase their talents in an orchestral setting since 1976.
