NIU Executive Club hosts scholarship dinner dance
By Daily Chronicle
The Northern Illinois University Executive Club invites alumni from the NIU College of Business to its annual scholarship dinner dance on Nov. 7 at the Oak Brook Hills Marriott Resort.
The dinner dance, now in its 11th year, has raised more than $500,000 for student scholarships since its inception.
The 150-member club annually awards four $4,000-a-year scholarships to incoming freshman who meet exacting academic eligibility requirements.
Kent A. Nelson, managing director, American Westbrook Services in Westchester, will receive the Founders’ Award, which annually recognizes individuals who contributed to the growth and development of the NIU Executive Club, the College of Business and other business and civic organizations.
A resident of Palatine, Nelson formerly was an adjunct professor of management at NIU, teaching courses and lecturing on leadership and negotiation.
He currently serves as a director of The Chicago Crime Commission and is actively involved with the Max McGraw Wildlife Foundation in East Dundee.
Among the special attractions at the dinner is a live auction featuring a premium guest package to the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas on April 16-19.
The ACMA package includes two tickets to the awards ceremony on April 18; backstage passes to the after-party; tickets to a CBS-TV special on April 19; a junior suite at The Signature at MGM Grand; and round-trip airfare on Southwest Airlines.
Individual tickets to the dinner cost $225, which includes a $50 contribution to the scholarship fund. Sponsorships of tables for eight begin at $2,200, up to a platinum sponsorship of $25,000.
