Tom Inboden, owner of Inboden Meats Ltd. in DeKalb, was recently elected president of the American Association of Meat Processors at the 70th American Convention of Meat Processors and Suppliers’ Exhibition in Omaha, Neb.

Inboden has worked his way through the AAMP board chairman positions, serving as the association’s first vice president and treasurer before he took charge of his presidential duties on July 18.

Inboden and his family business were recently featured in the July edition of Meat & Poultry magazine. He took over a 1,500-square-foot mini-supermarket in 1975 that was originally started by his parents.

A few years ago, Tom and his wife, Ingrid, realized that while their business was successful, it wasn’t living up to its potential.

After crunching the numbers, they realized that the meat department made the money to subsidize all the other departments in the store.

They went to many fancy food and supermarket shows to learn that not only could each department be self-sufficient, but they could each be independently profitable.

The store has been expanded into a 9,000-square-foot specialty marketplace selling top quality fresh meat, processed meat, seafood, cheeses, breads, fruits, vegetables and wines.

Inboden and his family business were recently featured in the July edition of Meat & Poultry magazine.
Inboden succeeds Dennis Schaardt, Den’s Country Meats Inc. of Table Rock, Neb., who will remain on the board of directors as the immediate past president.

Daniel Glier of Glier’s Meats Inc. in Covington, Ky., took over the office of treasurer and Jon Frohling of Frohling Meats Inc. in Hecla, S.D., was elected as the first vice president.

Daniel Weber of Weber Meats of Geneseo Inc. in Geneseo was elected as the second vice president and Tim Haen of Haen Meat Packing Inc. in Kaukauna, Wis., was elected as the third vice president.
