Wal-Mart has donated $1,000 to Family Service Agency’s Big Brothers Big Sisters program. This donation was from the Wal-Mart Foundation through its Community Involvement Grant.

The donation will help to keep the mentoring services offered by Big Brothers Big Sisters available to the community.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters program works to provide positive role models for children in the area by providing consistent one-on-one interaction with a stable, positive adult.

Research shows that Little Brothers and Little Sisters do better in school, avoid drugs and alcohol, and feel better about themselves.

The Community Involvement Grant is Wal-Mart’s program for giving back to the community, and by donating to Big Brothers Big Sisters, they are helping to shape better communities and brighter futures, according to a recent news release.

Karen Orser, director for Big Brothers Big Sisters, received the check from Sally Poe, Wal-Mart Community Involvement Coordinator, at the DeKalb store. This program was implemented by Wal-Mart’s founder, Sam Walton, who operated under the philosophy, “operate globally, give back locally.”
