Burger buffet: Noon-2 p.m. Saturdays at Genoa Veterans Home, 311 S. Washington St. Cost is $2.75 for a hamburger or cheeseburger with chips or $4 for the sandwich and buffet. Different groups host the public weekly event, which features burgers grilled outdoors. The buffet includes potato salad, macaroni salad and beans. Proceeds help fund community projects and scholarships.

Genoa Masons’ breakfast: 6-10 a.m. first Sunday of the month at Genoa Masonic Lodge 288, 130 Route 23. The all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast for the public costs $4.50 for adults and $3 for children. Proceeds go toward school scholarships, Boy Scouts and the DeKalb County Animal Welfare Shelter.

Masons’ pancake breakfast: 7:30-11 a.m. Sundays at DeKalb Masonic Temple at Fairview Drive and Fourth Street. The public is invited. Suggested donations for this all-you-can-eat traditional pancake breakfast are $6 for adults, $3 for children, ages 5-12, and free for children, younger than 4. The meal includes french toast, eggs cooked to order, sausage links, toast, coffee and milk. Side orders also can be purchased: Biscuits and gravy, $4 and $2; egg, 50 cents; and assorted juices, 75 cents. 

Firefighters’ breakfast: 7-11 a.m. Sunday at the Monroe Center fire station, 104 West St. Cost for the all-you-can-eat breakfast is $7 for adults and $3 for children ages 6-12. The breakfast is free for children 5 and younger.

Pork loin dinner: 5 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. seatings Nov. 4 – the doors will open at 4:30 p.m. – at Grace United Methodist Church, 506 Willow St., Maple Park. The meal will be served family-style with mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable, salad, roll, beverage and Amish pie. Cost is $9 for adults and $4 for children younger than 12. Sons of the American Legion Fish fry: 5-8 p.m. first Friday each month at Genoa Veterans Home, 311 S. Washington St. Cost is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for children younger than 12.

Fourth annual Willard Aves American Legion Post 1010 Kingston Pork Chop Dinner: 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 7 at Varsity Pub, Route 72 in Kingston. Cost is $9 for adults and $5 for children younger than 12. Proceeds will support the Genoa-Kingston and Hiawatha Scholarship Fund. The event will honor Veterans Day and the birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps.

“Balls for Brunch” for Testicular Cancer: Noon-5 p.m. Nov. 8 at Five Star Bar, 1424 W. Chicago Ave., Chicago, held by the Awareness for You public relations team supporting Rockford Memorial Hospital’s Radiation and Oncology Unit. Speakers will be testicular cancer survivors Rick Miller and Johnny Imerman. Testicular cancer is most common in young men ages 20-34; while it is curable, there are about 7,500 new cases and approximately 350 deaths per year in the U.S. This meatball lunch will include a meatball-eating contest. Raffle prizes include a $250 gift certificate from Quartinos in Chicago, an iPod shuffle from Best Buy employees, and a guest pass for Fitness Formula. Masons All-You-Can-Eat Italian Dinner: 4-7 p.m. Nov. 7 at the DeKalb Masonic Temple at South Fourth Street/Route 23 and Fairview Drive in the southeast part of DeKalb. Diners support local schools and charities with this all-you-can-eat dinner of lasagna, mostaccioli, spaghetti with meat or marinara sauce, Caesar salad, garlic bread, dessert, coffee or lemonade. Cost is $10 for adults, $6 for chIldren 16 and younger or $25 for a family (two adults and up to four children). Call 815-508-3878 for more information or tickets. Malta United Methodist Church’s annual roast beef dinner: 4:30-7 p.m. Nov. 7 at the church, at South Third and Sprague streets. The event also will include a bake sale and a sealed bid auction. Tickets cost $12 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-11. The meal is free for children 4 and younger. The menu also includes mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet peas, gelatin salad, baked rolls, assorted pies and beverages.

Monthly church suppers: Seating times are 5 p.m. and 6:15 p.m., usually on first Saturday each month at Kingston United Methodist Church, 121 W. First St. Nov. 7, the meat for the monthly church supper will be turkey. Dinners include dessert. Donations are $8 for adults and $3.50 for children. Gift certificates are available.

Veterans Day Weekend Pancake Breakfast: 8-11:30 a.m. Nov. 8 at the Sandwich Fire Station. Indian Valley Vocational Center’s SkillsUSA organization will sponsor the pancake and sausage breakfast. Advanced ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12 and seniors older than 65. Members of the military are free with military ID. At the door, adult tickets will cost $7. SkillsUSA is a state and national organization that gives high school students the opportunity to belong to a group that stresses leadership, team building, professional development and community service. Students may participate in regional, state and national competitions in technical and action skills areas. For more information, contact 815-786-9873.

Genoa-Kingston United Way fundraiser: 5-6:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at Genoa-Kingston High School, 980 Park Ave. in Genoa. Each two pork chop dinner, $10 each, must be ordered before the drive-thru dinner event. All proceeds will directly benefit 21 agencies of the Genoa-Kingston United Way, which rely on United Way funding each year. Contact Melissa Stoffregen at 815-784-2843 to purchase tickets. The pork chop dinner catered by Whitman’s Catering also will include potato salad, baked beans, applesauce, rolls and butter.

Friendship breakfasts: 7-11 a.m. second Saturday each month at Kingston Friendship Center, 120 S. Main St. Tickets are $6 per adult and $3 per child younger than 4.  The meal includes eggs cooked to order, waffles, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, corned-beef hash, bacon, sausage, English muffins, fruit cups, juice, milk and coffee.

Benefit breakfast: 7 a.m.-noon Nov. 15 in the Parish Hall of St. Catherine of Genoa, 340 S. Stott St. Genoa, sponsored by the St. Catherine Parish family, Knights of Columbus 14294 and the Men’s Club of St. Catherine’s Church for Ashley Kim, the Genoa-Kingston Middle School seventh-grader who was paralyzed during a summer pool party accident. All of the donations collected at the public breakfast will go directly to the Kim family to help with ongoing medical expenses.
