Larry Zevnik, head of Adult Services of the Sycamore Public Library, was contacted and agreed to spearhead the project, according to a recent news release. Each week the book review involved a chapter reading, followed by a lively discussion about the events in the author’s childhood, as he ventured from Chicago to small town, Sycamore. Each week as a guest reader entered the room, a hush would fall and the worries of the world would be transformed to laughter and fond memories. For many of the residents, this hour became the highlight of their day, according to the release. The book gave residents an opportunity to reminisce about bygone days and share their own life stories. The last chapter was read by Sarah Tobias, director of the Sycamore Public Library. “I enjoyed the experience so much and cried through the entire last chapter,” said Tobias in the release. “It was wonderful to come and share the library with people who may no longer have the ability or opportunity. I know that everyone that participated in the program enjoyed their time and left Oak Crest feeling a sense of purpose. “We can’t wait to join you again.” This sentiment was shared by all the Oak Crest residents who participated, according to the release. Oak Crest is located at 2944 Greenwood Acres Drive, DeKalb. For more information call 815-756-8461 or visit www.oakcrestdekalb.org. Comments
