VAC’s annual senior luncheon a success
Voluntary Action Center hosted its annual countywide senior luncheon on Sept. 24 at St. Mary’s Memorial Hall in Sycamore.
The luncheon, which has been held since 1987, featured a Las Vegas theme with music by The Jerry Armstrong Show, highlighting the songs of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.
“The entertainment was enjoyed by most,” Nancy Hicks, Senior Luncheon Program director for Voluntary Action Center, said in a news release.
The luncheon also featured more than 20 raffle prizes – with Lucille Weydert winning the highest prize of a complimentary dinner for two at Buckingham’s, a fine dining restaurant at Grand Victoria Casino in Elgin.
More than 200 seniors from around the county came out for an afternoon filled with great food and entertainment. The release said the luncheon would not have been possible without the numerous volunteers.
“The volunteers were tremendous; they really came together to help make the day a great success,” Hicks said in the release.
National Bank & Trust Company is the premier sponsor of all VAC events this year. Other sponsors for this event included Bethany Health Care, Castle Club of Castle Bank, Crum-Halsted Agency Inc., Lehan Drug & Home Health Care, Northern Rehab & Sports Medicine, Home Bound Healthcare Inc., Family Service Agency’s Seniors Services Center, Rosati’s of Genoa, Rosati’s of Sycamore, and Giordano’s of Sycamore.
“As with so many of our programs, this started as a small picnic gathering and grew to this immensely successful luncheon,” Tom Zucker, executive director, said in the release. This was the 22nd year VAC has hosted the event.
