Sycamore's Veronica Behrens waited all day to get her match in at the IHSA Girls Tennis State Tournament on Thursday.

Rain forced the state tournament from its original outdoor schedule to the indoors, and moved Behrens from Schaumburg to the North Shore Club in Glenview. And after a lengthy wait, Behrens suffered a 6-0, 6-1 loss to Schaumburg's Monica Lin to put the Sycamore tennis player into the consolation bracket.

However, the IHSA canceled the back draw of the state tournament because of the inclement weather, which ended Behrens' season.

"We thought it would be OK, but then she didn't get a chance to play," Sycamore coach Dave Hillmer said.

Behrens ends her junior season with a 24-6 record.

"Her losses were against some of the top competition," Hillmer said. "She played very well, and with 24 wins, you are beating a lot of people. We look forward to her senior year and better things to come."

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Spartans sweep:
Sycamore beat Glenbard South, 25-21, 25-17, in its regular-season finale. Evyn McCoy had 10 kills and five blocks for the Spartans while Kate Binder finished with eight kills and 11 digs and Jill Johnson added 39 assists, four kills and three blocks.

"It was a slow-paced game," Sycamore coach Debbie Klock said. "Wherever I put them, they will play. They can play at any place on the court."

Sycamore finished the regular season at 29-5 and 12-2 in the Western Sun Conference. The Spartans will take on Burlington Central on Thursday in the Class 3A Burlington Central Regional.

Timberwolves get win: Indian Creek got seven kills and 15 digs from Cameron Wallace in a 25-20, 17-25, 25-20 win against Amboy. Katie Browder had 17 digs and four kills for the Timberwolves while Anna Stiker finished with 17 digs as part of a good defensive effort for Indian Creek on senior night.

"They were all having fun out there," Indian Creek coach Stephanie Crutcher said. "We played some great defense in the third game. That was really nice to see."

Cogs fall: Stillman Valley beat Genoa-Kingston, 25-22, 25-15. The Cogs will play Byron on Thursday in the Class 2A Byron Regional.

"Our inconsistency blew it for us," G-K coach Tiffany Sitarz said. "We were just really inconsistent."

Sandwich wins in three: Taylor Anderson had five kills and five digs for Sandwich as the Indians defeated Reed-Custer, 25-21, 12-25, 25-20. Anna Simmons added four aces and three assists for Sandwich.

GIRLS SWIMMING

DeKalb/Sycamore wins big:
The DeKalb/Sycamore co-op team defeated Elgin, 118-38, on its senior night. Casey Jepsen won the 100-yard freestyle with a state qualifying time of 59.93 seconds. Carly Primrose won the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, Alex DeWitt took the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke and Molly Olson won the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.

"We've definitely been on a roll as far as the last couple of meets," DeKalb/Sycamore coach Leah Eames said. "We've had some big wins and kind of come together as a team."
