
SHS presents ‘Oklahoma!’ Nov. 6-8Sycamore High School will present the Broadway classic “Oklahoma!” on Nov. 6-8. The show, which was the first collaboration of the famed duo Rogers and Hammerstein, takes place in the Oklahoma Territory in 1906, shortly before it became a state. It tells the story of cowboy Curly McLain (played by Caleb Weinhold) and his romance with farm girl Laurey Williams (Gail Anderson), and his rival for her affections Jud Frye (Steven McCall). A secondary romance concerns flirtatious Ado Annie (Michelle Todd), her long-suffering fiancé Will Parker (Evan Bross) and a Persian pedler, Ali Hakim (Nathaniel Van Wienan), who gets caught in the middle. Rounding out the cast of characters are Aunt Eller (Jordan Emmons), Gertie Cummings (Kiah Fischer), Andrew Carnes (Miles Grimes), Ike Skidmore (Dominic Johnson), Cord Elam (Evan Horlock), Kate (Lucy Wrenn), Vivian (Kaytie Rivkin) and Virginia (Miranda Van Wienan). The ensemble includes Alison Buick, Sydney Carpenter, Bridgid Crawford, Sara Diemer, Ashley Finnell, Emily Flower, Sam Gaul, Kayla Gin, Paige Harrington, Daniel King, Laura Knuth, Tim Lalowski, Katie Lesniewski, Alyssa Skidmore and Jessica Wilson. The production will feature all of the musical numbers that have made the show a perennial favorite since its debut on Broadway in 1943, including “Oh What a Beautiful Morning,” “Kansas City,” “I Just Can’t Say No,” and the title song, “Oklahoma!” The show will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 6-7 and at 2 p.m. Nov. 8 in the auditorium of Sycamore High School. |
