
Andrea Kárpáti speaks at NIUThe Northern Illinois University Art Education Division welcomed visiting 2009 Fulbright Scholar and guest speaker, Andrea Kárpáti, on Tuesday. In an open lecture, “Hungarian Gypsy: Child-Art-Culture,” Kárpáti focused on the work she has done with Hungarian Gypsy children. Kárpáti is professor and head of the UNESCO Centre for Information and Communication Technologies at ELTE University, Faculty Sciences, in Budapest, Hungary. She is a member of the editorial board of three international research journals, the executive committee of European Distance Education Network, the executive board of the UNESCO commission – Hungary, and the Educational Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. She served as vice president of International Society for Education Through Art for eight years. She has published 18 books and more than 80 research papers in five languages. Her research includes: the study of the traditional and digital visual expressions of youth subcultures, testing art and design skills, visual talent in multicultural communities, and the use of multimedia applications in education. Her recent research projects include EU-funded NEMED (an interdisciplinary arts and science program to develop visual skills, math and textual literacy) and CALIBRATE (development and testing of the European Learning Resource Exchange – a free repository of more than 120,000 learning resources from 20 countries). |
