CAMPUS VISITS: Volkening off to slow start

Andrew Volkening, a former Genoa-Kingston student, has been on a slow start to the season after leading the Air Force hockey team to an Elite Eight appearance last season.

The senior has started the season with a 0-4 record and has given up 17 goals in 172:33 minutes of play this season. He has given up 5.91 goals per game and has an 80.5 save percentage.

Air Force (1-4) has suffered back-to-back 4-2 losses to Alabama-Huntsville this past weekend, and will look to rebound with two consecutive games against RIT this weekend.

Johnson a contributor for Drake: Former Sycamore standout Caitlin Johnson finished with seven digs and eight assists in Drake's  3-1 victory over Southern Illinois on Friday.

On Saturday, Johnson followed with 11 assists and six digs in a 3-0 victory over Evansville to help lead Drake to a 15-7 overall record and 5-4 mark in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Johnson has played in 21 of the team's 22 matches this season and is second on the team in assists (155) and sixth in digs (89).

Secrest punting at Valparaiso: Mitch Secrest, a Kaneland graduate, has taken on the punting duties for Valparaiso this season, and is averaging 33.5 yards a kick. He has punted 33 times this season, with seven of them falling inside the 20-yard line. He has been blocked three times this season.

In a 24-13 loss to Butler this past weekend, Secrest punted four times for an average of 36.2 yards a kick. Three of his attempts were inside the 20.
