Local Meal Events
Italian Feast: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Hinckley Methodist Church, 801 N. Sycamore St. Lasagna, mostaccioli, spaghetti with meat sauce and pesto linguini will be served, along with salad, bread, dessert and a beverage for $8 for adults and $4 for children; the meal is free for children 3 and younger. All are welcome.
Burger buffet: Noon-2 p.m. Saturdays at Genoa Veterans Home, 311 S. Washington St. Cost is $2.75 for a hamburger or cheeseburger with chips or $4 for the sandwich and buffet.
Sunday breakfast: 7-11 a.m. fourth Sunday each month at Sycamore Veterans Memorial Home, 121 S. California St. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12. The public is welcome at the all-you-can-eat breakfast, which includes eggs cooked to order and biscuits and gravy.
Masons’ pancake breakfast: 7:30-11 a.m. Sundays at DeKalb Masonic Temple at Fairview Drive and Fourth Street. The public is invited. Suggested donations for this all-you-can-eat traditional pancake breakfast are $6 for adults, $3 for children, ages 5-12, and free for children, younger than 4. Side orders also can be purchased: biscuits and gravy, $4 and $2; egg, 50 cents; and assorted juices, 75 cents.
Genoa Masons’ breakfast: 6-10 a.m. first Sunday of the month at Genoa Masonic Lodge 288, 130 Route 23. The all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast for the public costs $4.50 for adults and $3 for children. Proceeds go toward school scholarships, Boy Scouts and the DeKalb County Animal Welfare Shelter.
Fourth annual Willard Aves American Legion Post 1010 Kingston Pork Chop Dinner: 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 7 at Varsity Pub, Route 72 in Kingston. Cost is $9 for adults and $5 for children younger than 12. Proceeds will support the Genoa-Kingston and Hiawatha Scholarship Fund. The event will honor Veterans Day and the birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Masons All-You-Can-Eat Italian Dinner: 4-7 p.m. Nov. 7 at the DeKalb Masonic Temple at South Fourth Street/Route 23 and Fairview Drive in the southeast part of DeKalb. Diners can support local schools and charities with this all-you-can-eat dinner. Cost is $10 for adults, $6 for chldren 16 and younger or $25 for a family (two adults and up to four children). Genoa-Kingston United Way fundraiser: 5-6:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at Genoa-Kingston High School, 980 Park Ave. in Genoa. Each two pork chop dinner, $10 each, must be ordered before the drive-thru dinner event. Call Melissa Stoffregen at 815-784-2843 to purchase tickets.
Benefit breakfast: 7 a.m.-noon Nov. 15 in the Parish Hall of St. Catherine of Genoa, 340 S. Stott St. Genoa, sponsored by the St. Catherine Parish family, Knights of Columbus 14294 and the Men’s Club of St. Catherine’s Church for Ashley Kim, the Genoa-Kingston Middle School seventh-grader who was paralyzed during a summer pool party accident. All of the donations collected at the public breakfast will go directly to the Kim family to help with ongoing medical expenses.
