Buddy Brigade walks for diabetes cureStrategies for Optimal Achievement and Regeneration Inc. reaches out to local aging and homeless residents with programs and activities that alleviate distress and otherwise engage impoverished seniors in ways that promote wellness and inclusion in the community. SOAR’S Buddy Brigade project encourages wellness, gentle exercise, and outreach activities for seniors, and last weekend, the Buddy Brigade participated in the Step Out for Diabetes Walkathon at Curran’s Apple Orchard in Rockford. “This is the final walk in this series of charitable walkathons!” said team leader Kaiya Marie, in a news release. Four women from Rockford – Bobbie Williams, Chevette Sanders, Victoria Martinez and Shauntesia Simmons – volunteered to walk with the Buddy Brigade as well. “Although the Buddy Brigade outreaches to seniors, people of all ages are invited to participate in our activities, which support inclusion for all community members,” Marie said. “All in all, it was a success,” said Marie. “We raised $100 for The American Diabetes Association, a wonderful organization.” She said donations for the walk can still be made on behalf of the Buddy Brigade.
