
First Baptist celebrates 165By The DAILY CHRONICLEDeKALB – On Sunday, First Baptist Church of DeKalb will celebrate its 165th anniversary with the theme “Celebrating 165 years of ministry for the glory of God.” Dr. Jerry Cain of Judson University in Elgin will be the featured speaker. He will speak at the 10:30 a.m. service. His topic will be “I Have a Delightful Inheritance.” The day begins with Sunday school at 8:30 a.m. on radio station WLBK. There will be Sunday school classes for children through senior high school from 9:30-10:15 a.m. followed by the worship service at 10:30 a.m. Historical displays set up by Rick and Ruth Martha can be viewed in the fireside room from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the worship service. Participants in the worship service include Connie Holliday at the organ and Jimmy Scott on piano. The church choir will sing “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less,” led by Rosalie Williams, choir director. Rick Gibbons of Peoria will play a piano solo and the worship team also will participate. Other participants include Barb Lawson, John Lovell, Craig Rattenbury, the Rev. Joe Sanders, Tim Wilkin and John Goodwin. The church also will honor the new 50-year members, who are John Goodwin, Elaine Goodwin, Barbara Lawson, Ann Sipavich, Carol Storm and Kathy Perkins. A potluck dinner and short program will follow in the fellowship. |
