
Musicians invited to competitionThe NIU Community School of the Arts invites instrumentalists and vocalists 18 years old and younger to participate in the annual CSA Sinfonia Concerto Competition. Applications must be received by Nov. 2 and auditions are scheduled for Nov. 30 in the Music Building at Northern Illinois University. Applicants must live within a 75-mile radius of DeKalb. The music must be one movement of a standard solo concerto or an appropriate one-movement composition. The piece must be memorized and played for the audition with an accompanist. The time limit for auditions is eight minutes. The winner receives a cash prize of $200 and performs with the CSA Sinfonia in the Concert Hall of the Music Building at Northern Illinois University. Linc Smelser is the music director of CSA Sinfonia, a highly respected regional high-school-age orchestra. Members are admitted by audition. The NIU Community School of the Arts offers music lessons and ensembles, as well as music, art and theater classes to people of all ages in the area. |
