‘The Future of Food’ to be shown at UUFD

The Social Justice Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of DeKalb is providing a free, open-to-the-public showing of the award-winning documentary, “The Future of Food.”

The film will be shown at 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at the church, 158 N. Fourth St. in DeKalb.

An open discussion will follow the film and participants will talk about the complex issues that revolve around the food in this country; and the quiet revolution that has been taking place in fields and on grocery store shelves over the past decade.

The film examines the complex web of market and political forces that are changing what people eat, according to a news release. It offers an in-depth look into the disturbing truth behind the unlabeled, patented, genetically engineered foods that have quietly filled grocery store shelves. The film also explores alternatives to large-scale industrial agriculture, placing organic and sustainable agriculture as real solutions to the farm crisis today.
