Five hurt in Route 38 crash

By BRENDA SCHORY - Shaw Suburban Media

CAMPTON HILLS – Five people were injured in a three-vehicle crash at 9:30 a.m. Friday on Route 38 just east of Pouley Road.

All are doing well at three area hospitals, officials said.

The crash occurred when a Gold Pontiac Bonneville driven by William H. Gallon, 43, of DeKalb, in the eastbound lanes, crossed the center lane and went into oncoming traffic, Officer Marshall Gauer said.

Gallon’s Pontiac struck the rear left tire and axle of a flatbed tow truck traveling west on Route 38. The Pontiac spun around and struck a third vehicle, a blue Volkswagon Cabrio convertible head-on, Gauer said.

Both Gallon and the Cabrio driver, Lynn D. Gorecki, 23, of Maple Park, were extricated by Elburn and Countryside Fire Protection District, Gauer said.

Gallon was first taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva in critical condition, then transfered to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove where he was listed in good condition Friday evening, a hospital spokeswoman said Gorecki was taken to Delnor and was listed in fair condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The towtruck driver, Simon Acevedo, 58, of Carpentersville, was treated and released at Delnor, Gauer said.

A front-seat passenger in the Pontiac, Barbara J. Stephen, 58, of DeKalb, was listed in good condition at Provena Mercy Center in Aurora a spokeswoman said.

A second passenger in the Pontiac, Louquanios J. Henderson, 33, of DeKalb, was brought in good condition to  Provena Mercy Center in Aurora, Gauer said.

No tickets or charges have been issued, and Campton Hills Police are still investigating the crash, Gauer said.

“We don’t know the reason he crossed the center line,” Gauer said. “There was no alcohol involved. Nobody in [the Pontiac] can saw what happened other than a truck hit them. Unit 3 [the Cabrio driver] did not see what happened and [the towtruck driver] did not see what happened, and there were no witnesses.”
