G-K Food Pantry extends thanks

To the editor:

The Genoa-Kingston Food Pantry would like to extend its thanks to those who so willingly donated food during the Genoa Days parade. We collected half again as much as our participation brought in last year. In the future we hope to see each onlooker at the parade bring a nonperishable food item to deposit in the grocery carts and fill the pantry shelves. We want to raise awareness for the need in the community as well as inform others that the service is offered.

We would like to thank the local businesses that so generously sponsored the grocery carts this year. A hearty “thanks” to Dr. Jeffrey Caron, optometrist; Jim Wilson, Edward Jones Investments; ERA Elite Realtors of Genoa; and attorney Deborah Ullrich. Their sponsorship will help feed several families in need.

Also, a big thank you for the help we received from the Kaskaskia service unit of the Sybaquay Girl Scouts Council in pushing grocery carts to support this effort. We could not have done it without you. And thank you to all those behind the scenes that helped make this project a success: Brown’s County Market for use of the grocery carts, the churches for posting the notice in their bulletins, use of community and bank signs, the newspapers and last, but not least, the Genoa-Kingston Fire Department.

The Genoa-Kingston Food Pantry is hosted by the area churches; food distribution is on the third Monday each month at Faith United Methodist Church located at 325 S. Stott St. in Genoa.

With much thanks,

Genoa-Kingston Food Pantry
