Sanders named new DeKalb football coachBy JAMES NOKES - sports@daily-chronicle.comDeKALB – Monday should be a busy day for Marty Sanders. Sanders is a “recommendation hire pending board approval,” to be the new head football coach at DeKalb High according to DeKalb athletic director Dan Jones. The Barbs start camp on Monday and Jones had to work quickly to find a replacement for Kurt Johansen, who offered his resignation on June 23. “I hope we can get a lot of people out to camp on Monday to see his enthusiasm and passion,” Jones said. “He’s already set to start working this weekend.” Sanders was an assistant coach at Sycamore for Drew Potthoff and Daryl Graves and was 11-34 from 2003-2007 as coach at Kewanee. He most recently was an assistant coach at Benedictine University in Lisle. “His dad was a football coach and he knows DeKalb and knows the background of our program,” Jones said. “He wanted DeKalb to be his home; he has young family and wants to plant deep roots here.” |
