DeKalb church to host gospel music concert

DeKalb Christian Church, located at 1107 S. First St. in DeKalb, will host a gospel music concert at 5 p.m. Sunday by John Petersen of Tilden, Neb.

Petersen is a gospel singer who has chosen to make a career of traveling full time as a gospel singer and evangelist throughout the United States and wherever he is invited to share.

The concert will include many styles of music, including hymns, southern gospel, country gospel, contemporary gospel and patriotic songs. Petersen does concerts in many places, including churches, nursing homes, for banquets, fairs, school assemblies, concert halls, etc.

He started participating in concerts with his family as a very young boy, and having developed a baritone voice, is considered a heart singer, singing from the depths of his soul. He uses some pre-recorded background music accompaniment and also accompanies himself with the piano, guitar, banjo and other instruments for various selections.

He has spent time in Kingston, Jamaica singing and preaching with his brother, Tim Petersen, and has even sung as a featured guest on a cruise to the Bahamas.

More recently, Petersen sang and played keyboard with a gospel band called GIG (God is Great) in the northeast Nebraska-South Dakota area. Recordings will be available, and a love offering accepted. There will be refreshments following the concert.
