Mitch McVicker to lead worship July 11 at SUMC

By DAILY CHRONICLE

Dove Award-winning singer/songwriter Mitch McVicker will lead worship for the Sycamore United Methodist Saturday celebration service at 5 p.m. July 11. McVicker has done more than 900 concerts, has recorded five CDs and shared the stage with well-known artists in Christian music: Rich Mullins, Mercy Me, Third Day, DC Talk and Rebecca St. James.

Rich Mullins was the greatest creative influence in McVicker’s life, a recent news release said, and they worked closely together for almost three years. While driving to a concert in 1997, McVicker and Mullins were involved in a car wreck in central Illinois in which Mullins died.

McVicker suffered collapsed lungs and broken bones, was left in a coma and hospitalized for seven weeks. The experience affects everything McVicker does to this day, the release said.

In 2009, McVicker recorded his sixth album, “Always Believe,” and will do about 100 concerts and services as he wraps up his tour, “Love Will Rise.”

McVicker will lead musical worship, as well as share his message, on July 11. His visit is sponsored by the Jessie Viner Bequest memorial money, and a love offering will also be taken to supplement. Food and fellowship will follow the service, and McVicker will also have merchandise available for purchase.

“I think our calling is where our deepest joy and the world’s greatest need meet,” McVicker said in the release. “The last thing this world needs is another Christian musician, but the world does need the truth.”
