DeKALB – Police are looking for a man who robbed a title loan business Thursday afternoon.
Police were called shortly after 12:15 p.m. to Illinois Title Loans Inc. at 2733 Sycamore Road in DeKalb after two employees there said a man pulled out a silver handgun and demanded money, DeKalb Police Sgt. Bob Redel said.
"He came in and wanted money and displayed a weapon and left," Redel said in a phone interview about 6 p.m.
No shots were fired and no one was injured, DeKalb Police Chief Bill Feithen said at the scene.
The man fled with an undisclosed amount of money, Feithen said, and headed west through the parking lot toward a grassy area near DeKalb Area Retirement Center-Oak Crest. Officers from DeKalb and Sycamore police departments, as well as the county sheriff's department, assisted in the search for the man, which included the use of a tracking dog.
Employees at other nearby businesses, including Greenacre Cleaners, Cornerstone Christian Supplies and Splash of Color, told the Daily Chronicle that they did not see anyone during the robbery.
Feithen said police do have witnesses and are following up on information those people have provided.
"They are still working on it," he said at 5 p.m. Thursday. "They went back out to the scene and are trying to develop some leads."
The man was described by victims as black and in his 40s, Feithen said. He was wearing a tan shirt and had a mustache and dreadlocks, but Feithen said those in the business at the time of the robbery thought the hair may have been fake.
Part of the robber's disguise was found on the ground on the path he fled on, Redel added, and that has provided leads for officers.
