Many communities holding parades, concerts and fireworks.

DEKALB

DeKalb Municipal Band will present a special Salute to veterans and members of the armed forces and fireworks show at 8 p.m. Saturday at Hopkins Park, 1403 Sycamore Road.

SHABBONA HOMETOWN FESTIVAL

Saturday

• Shabbona Fire Department Annual Pancake Breakfast: 7-11 a.m.
• Craft fair: 9 a.m.
• Carnival rides, fire-truck slide and inflatable attractions: 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
• Food vendors: 11 a.m., including Nitecrawlers Bar & Grill beer garden.
• “Staying Strong” Fourth of July Parade: 12:30 p.m.
• Ice cream eating contest: 2 p.m., sponsored by Wisteds
• Kiddie waterfights: 3 p.m. on Navaho Street, hosted by the Shabbona Fire Department
• United Church of Christ Youth  annual fundraising hog raffle drawing: 4 p.m. in the tent on the Church grounds.
• Pork chop barbecue dinner: 4:30 p.m. at the Lions Depot.
• Live music dance: 8:30 p.m.-1 p.m. at Nitecrawlers Bar & Grill, featuring Blue Stone. Must be age 21 or older.
• Shabbona Fireworks Organization: Dusk, over Lake Shabbona. A donation of $10 per car is appreciated at the entrance to the lake. Donations in advance can be sent to Shabbona Fireworks, P.O. Box 133, Shabbona, IL 60550.

Sunday
• “Church in the Park”: 8-8:45 a.m. at the gazebo next to the Camp Shop.
• Car show: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Screamers Ice Cream
• Shabbona Hometown Events Bags Tournament: 11:30 a.m. registration, which costs $5 per person to play. Raffle-style drawing will pick partners, with play beginning at noon.

SANDWICH FREEDOM DAYS

Friday
• Car show, pig roast: 5-8 p.m.
• Outdoor bar and Carousel Sound DJ: 8-11 p.m.
• Movie in the Park: at dark at Knights Park; people who would like to see the movie can bring a blanket and popcorn.

Saturday
• Sandwich Freedom Days Parade kickoff: 10 a.m.
• Food vendors and activities booths: 10 a.m., including food all day, massages, games for children and a dunk tank.
• Nascar tire change challenge: 10:30 a.m.-7 p.m.
• Opening ceremonies: Noon at the gazebo.
• POW/MIA Remembrance Table: Noon.
• “Pull for Freedom” Mini Tractor Pull: 2-4 p.m.
• Competitions: 3 p.m. Sandwich throwing, hot dog eating at the main stage.
• Sandwich Idol: 3- 6 p.m.
• Live music: 7-11 p.m. Cavern Beat is a Beatles tribute band.
   
Sunday
  • Pancake breakfast: 7 a.m.-noon at the fire station.
• Tot Trot: 7:45 a.m. for children age 5 and younger.
• Freedom Run: 8-8:30 a.m., beginning and ending near Knights Park.
• Outdoor church service 9:15-9:45 a.m., held by the Federated Church of Sandwich.
• Motorcycle Show: 10 a.m.-3 p.m., hosted by Timber Creek Inn & Suites, in association with Black Magic Customs, Open Roads ABATE and Lucas Oil.
 • Kid’s Parade: 11:45 a.m. registration and noon step off. Children can decorate themselves and their bikes for a medal. Categories are “Most patriotic,” “Best look alike,” “Most Creative” and “Funniest.”
• Pie Eating Contest: 12:30 p.m.
• Vintage Baseball Game: 5:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds.
• Fireworks Display: Dark at the fairgrounds, courtesy of the Sandwich Park District.

LELAND CELEBRATIONS
Friday
• Croquet tournament: 8 a.m.-6 p.m., corner of Main Street and the spur road
• Pork chop dinner: 4:30-7 p.m. at Lion’s Pavilion
• Karaoke Night: 7 p.m. at Lion’s Pavilion

Saturday
• Parade: 10 a.m.
• Outhouse races: Noon on Railroad Street
• Ice cream social: 3 p.m. at Casey’s
• Fireworks: approximately 9 p.m., school grounds
