Kish honor society receives awardsBy DAILY CHRONICLE
The Alpha Rho Eta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Kishwaukee College was distinguished with several honors at the PTK Illinois Regional Convention, held June 5-7 at Kaskaskia College in Mount Vernon. Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society for students in two-year colleges. PTK highlights four hallmarks: scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship. Worldwide, PTK boasts nearly 1400 chapters. The Alpha Rho Eta chapter was recognized at the regional convention for achieving 5-Star Status – the highest rating possible – as well as for being named a top 100 chapter at the international level. PTK co-advisers at Kishwaukee College, Laurie Hoecherl and Niki Criswell, also received regional adviser awards. The most prestigious award received by the Kishwaukee College chapter, though, was the Regional Service Hallmark Award for 2008-2009. The Service Hallmark Award recognizes the Alpha Rho Eta chapter’s dedication to making an impact in the local community through their countless service projects that benefit local social service agencies, positively affect the environment, raise money for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and support and participate in campus activities and programs. “The Chapter Service Hallmark Award is a testament to everyone who participated in all of our programming during the past year,” Hoecherl said. “We have had an increasing number of eligible students accepting membership and becoming involved with our service projects and this award celebrates that high level of involvement and its impact on our campus and in our community. This is the first time in quite a few years that we have received a chapter hallmark award and we are very proud.” For more information on Phi Theta Kappa, visit www.ptk.org. |
