No injuries were reported in a fire that broke out Sunday morning in a vacant office building near downtown Sycamore, according to the Sycamore Fire Department.
The fire in the building at 141 E. Elm St. was reported about 6:30 a.m. by a passerby on his way to work, who noticed white smoke coming from the building's eaves, the statement said. Firefighters forced their way into the building and found the fire originated in a room just inside the building's west wall. It took about 20 minutes for firefighters from Sycamore, DeKalb and Cortland to control the fire while a Genoa-Kingston fire crew covered Sycamore's Fire Station 1.
The fire has been ruled accidental. Damage is estimated at about $61,000.
