Sycamore's Kinsley top runner in UP Rehab 5K

By DAILY CHRONICLE

Tyson Kinsley of Sycamore was the overall winner of the second annual Unlimited Performance Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine 5K Charity Run June 20 at the old Kishwaukee Community Hospital.

It was a sunny day that saw 180 runners and walkers take part in the 3.1-mile event. Proceeds of $2,148, plus matching funds from Kishwaukee Community Hospital, will be donated to the DeKalb County Chapter of the American Red Cross for a grand total of $4,296. Unlimited Performance is a department of Kishwaukee Community Hospital.

Kinsley set a new course record with a time of 16:33, leading a group of local runners that finished in eight of the top 10 places, only to be broken up by David Gramer of Rockford and Kyle White of Lake Villa. The overall female winner was Jaimie Towle of Somonauk, who finished 16th overall with a time of 22:04.

Although the run was very competitive for a number of runners, it also was meant for each individual to test his or her personal fitness abilities. The number of participants ranged in age from 7-75. All participants received a goody bag and T-shirt prior to the run and were treated to post-race food, water, stretching, massage and other raffle prizes.

The community was generous with financial sponsorships, product donations, time and effort, a recent news release said, and that allowed Unlimited Performance to present age group awards, and provide raffle prizes and drinks to all competitors and about 50 volunteers.

“Without a strong commitment from both the local community and Kishwaukee Community Hospital, we would have had a very difficult time pulling this run together and making it as successful as it was,” said Chris Laurent, Unlimited Performance athletic trainer and race organizer in the release. “For this, the staff at Unlimited Performance Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine would like to thank all those who helped with the event.”

Results and pictures are posted on the Unlimited Performance Web site at www.unlimitedperformance.org.
