The Shabbona Lions Club annual Fourth of July Pork Chop barbecue: 4:30-7 p.m. Saturday at Lions Depot, which is located under the  Shabbona water tower. A one-chop dinner costs $7 and two-chop dinner is $9. Drive-thru pick up will be available. 815-970-1179.

Genoa Masons’ breakfast: 6-10 a.m. first Sunday most months at Genoa Masonic Lodge 288, 130 Route 23. The all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast for the public costs $4.50 for adults and $3 for children. Proceeds go toward school scholarships, Boy Scouts and the DeKalb County Animal Welfare Shelter.

Fish dinners: 5-7 p.m. second Friday each month in the Knox Community Room at Newman Catholic Student Center, 512 Normal Road in DeKalb. Full-course meals served by Knights of Columbus Council 5572 cost from $5-$10 each and include an entree, salad, bread, vegetables and choice of potato.

Friday Night Fish Fry: 5:30-7:30 p.m. July 10 at DeKalb Knights of Columbus Club, 1336 E. Lincoln Highway. Contact: Sam Dvorak, Knights of Columbus Club manager, at 815-758 4141. Dinners are served with baked potato or french fries, coleslaw and dinner roll. Meal events are open to the public.

Saturday Burgers: 11 a.m.-2 p.m. July 11 at DeKalb Knights of Columbus Club, 1336 E. Lincoln Highway. Contact: Sam Dvorak, Knights of Columbus Club manager, at 815-758 4141. Menu includes third-pound beef burgers, fries, onion rings, mushrooms, potato skins, soup or chili in season.

Burger buffet: Noon-2 p.m. July 11 at Genoa Veterans Home, 311 S. Washington St. Cost is $2.75 for a hamburger or cheeseburger with chips or $4 for the sandwich and buffet. Different groups host at this public weekly event. Proceeds help fund community projects and scholarships.
