SYCAMORE – A pair of brothers were arraigned Wednesday on charges of a dozen Class X felonies in connection to an April 17 break-in in a DeKalb apartment.

Tycarey Raines, 18, of DeKalb and Jaucarey Raines, also 18, who has both Palos Hills and Glen Ellyn addresses listed in court documents, have each been charged with two counts of home invasion, one count of armed violence and nine counts of aggravated battery. Daveyon S. Bradley, 19, and John D. Huggins, 20, both of DeKalb, also have been charged.

Police say four masked men forced their way into an apartment in the 1000 block of Ridge Drive about 1 a.m. April 17. The first intruder showed a handgun to the dozen or so people in the apartment. There are conflicting reports from witnesses, but it is believed at least two more of the four men had guns, police said.

The intruders ordered the people in the apartment to the ground. They then took things from five victims they struck with guns, police said.

At least one tenant of the apartment was sleeping in a bedroom, and one of the intruders woke him up by hitting him with a gun. None of the injuries was serious enough to require medical attention, police said.

Class X felonies are punishable by 6-30 years in prison. There is the potential for an additional 15 years in one of the home invasion counts and a minimum 15-year sentence in the armed violence charge because a gun was used in the commission of the crimes, DeKalb County Assistant State’s Attorney Victor Escarcida said.

Both Raines brothers are scheduled to be back in court Aug. 6. Huggins’ next court date is June 30, and Bradley’s is July 1.
