Hinckley student wins FFA veterinary awardBy DAILY CHRONICLESarah Weirich of Hinckley, a member of the Hinckley-Big Rock FFA chapter, won the State Veterinary Medicine Award at the State FFA Proficiency Awards Day, held April 4 at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. Weirich is the daughter of Mike and JoAnne Weirich of Hinckley. Her agriculture education instructor at Hinckley-Big Rock High School is Gary Blankenship. The Veterinary Medicine Award is one of 50 State FFA Proficiency Awards. Five finalists from each award division had previously advanced through chapter, section and district competition. Weirich received her award during the Illinois FFA State Convention June 9-11 at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield. Selection of state award winners is based on a personal interview, as well as the size and growth of the FFA members’ Supervised Agricultural Experience Program and their knowledge of the subject. The 50 state award winners were selected from more than 17,000 FFA members statewide. The Illinois Foundation FFA sponsors the proficiency award program and provides medals, plaques and other awards for more than 4,000 Illinois FFA members each year. |
