Lynch named captain of junior national team
Northern Illinois incoming freshman Jordan Lynch played quarterback in high school, but he is already making headlines as a safety.
Lynch was named one of four team captains for USA Football's Junior National Team as the team prepares for the International Federation of American Football Junior World Championship, which will be held from Saturday-July 5 in Canton, Ohio. Lynch plays safety for Team USA. The team is the country's first national team in football composed of high school-aged players.
The Mount Carmel graduate was named a captain by his teammates in a player vote.
Of the four captains, Lynch is the only one going to a non-BCS school. The other three captains are: LB Storm Klein (Ohio State), QB Bryce Petty (Baylor) and RB David Wilson (Virginia Tech).
Team USA kicks off its tournament action at 7 p.m. on Saturday against Team France.
Local softball players honored
Sycamore's Elora Oprins, Rhianna Fleetwood and Anna Buzzard were all named to the Illinois Coaches' Associations Class 3A/4A all-state third team.
DeKalb's Carlie Vaga was also named to the team along with Kaneland's Brianna Hurst and Jessica Lubic.
