By CHRONICLE STAFF

A Cary woman was critically injured in a two-car accident Saturday evening on Plank Road west of Moose Range Road.

Police said Ashley M. Riegle, 20, of Cary, was westbound on Plank Road about 5:15 p.m. when her vehicle veered onto the shoulder of the road, then skidded back onto the roadway and struck an eastbound vehicle driven by Eileen A. Miller, 59, of Hanover Park.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged in the collision, police said.

Riegle was extricated from her vehicle by the Sycamore Fire Department and was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital before being airlifted to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, where she is listed in critical condition. Miller was treated for her injuries at Kishwaukee and released. The condition of a 1-year-old child in Riegle’s vehicle was not available at press time.

The accident is being investigated by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and charges are pending, according to a police news release.
