50th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Keith and Shirley Grunden of Sycamore are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2-4 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Lutheran Church of St. John, 26555 Brickville Road in Sycamore.

Shirley Waechter and Keith Grunden were married June 27, 1959 at Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church in Quincy.

The couple have four children, Kent (Mary) Grunden of Lake Zurich, Karen (Brad) Perry of Naperville, Kathy (Bill) Adams of Tinley Park and Kristine (Nathan) Wendorf of McKinney, Texas. They also have nine grandchildren.

40th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Don and Sylvia Bray of Sycamore are celebrating their 40th anniversary this month with an open house from 2-4 p.m. June 28 at First Baptist Church, 515 W. State St. in Sycamore.

Don Bray and Sylvia Wilkinson were married June 28, 1969, at Bethany Baptist Church in DeKalb. Sylvia works as a speech language pathologist and Don is a retired farmer. They have four children, Carolyn Bray of Woodstock, Donna Bray and David Bray of Sycamore and Mary Ellen Bray of St. Paul, Minn.

60th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Gordon and Marcella Johnson of Earlville are celebrating their 60th anniversary this month with an open house from 3-5 p.m. June 28 at Indian Oaks Country Club in Shabbona.

Gordon Johnson and Marcella Engle were married June 19, 1949, at Congregational Church in DeKalb. Gordon is a retired farmer. The couple have three children, Gary (Tina) Johnson of Earlville, Charles (Lisa) Johnson of Earlville and Janet (Mike) Cesar of Rockford. They also have nine grandchildren, Christopher Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Katie Johnson, Wayne Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Rebecca (Matt) Robinson and Stacie Cesar. They also have one great-granddaughter, Emma Robinson.

60th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Leroy and Maxine Schneider of Cortland are celebrating their 60th anniversary this month with a private family dinner.

Maxine Overton and Leroy Schneider were married June 25, 1949, at St. Mary’s Church in Sycamore. They have four children, Jim (Cindi) Schneider of Lee, Janette Owen of Albuquerque, N.M., Gary (Kim) Schneider of Rochelle and Sandi (Tim) Devine of Genoa. They also have nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. William and Arliss Fraedrich of Sycamore are celebrating their 50th anniversary this month with an open house from 2-5 p.m. June 28 at Sycamore United Methodist Church, 160 Johnson Ave. in Sycamore.

William Fraedrich and Arliss Buzzell were married June 27, 1959, at Sycamore United Methodist Church. They have four children, Vicki (Dave) Stevens of Sycamore, Sheri (Jim Murray) Waltz of Columbus, Ind., Bill (Mary) Fraedrich of Sycamore and Steve (Tammy) Fraedrich of Cortland. They also have 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. They also ask that gifts be omitted.

BIRTHDAYS

98th birthday

Hugh McDermitt will celebrate his 98th birthday on June 27. Hugh farmed in Tipton and Madison counties, devoted much of his life to community service and leadership in the Tipton and Madison County Farm Bureau, Madison County Planning Commission, Masonic Order, Kiwanis Club, Gideon Society and Shiloh Friends Church. He and his wife, Grace Anna, moved to Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center in 1996. They were married 73 years. Celebrating Hugh will be family that includes Hugh A. (Ann) and Phyllis McDermitt, five grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

80th birthday

Gayle A. Kamm will celebrate her 80th birthday with an open house hosted by her children from 1-3 p.m. June 27 at First Lutheran Church of Kirkland. The family requests that gifts be omitted.

90th birthday

Doris Silvius of Genoa is celebrating her 90th birthday with an open house from 1:30-4:30 p.m. June 28 at Chamberlin Park in Genoa.

Doris and her late husband, Edward Silvius, have three children, Priscilla (Ron) Carpenter of Harvard, Beverly (Rob) West of Kingston and Vincent Silvius of Sycamore. They also have six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

ENGAGEMENT

Erwin-Paterson

Kari M. Erwin and Scott D. Paterson, both of Madison, Wis., are engaged to be married Oct. 2 in Madison.

Erwin is the daughter of Ken and Vicki Erwin of DeKalb. She graduated from Malta High School in 1999 and completed a degree in public relations from Bradley University in Peoria in 2003. She currently works as a senior outreach specialist for the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, a part of the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

Paterson is the son of David and Nancy Paterson of Madison. He attended the University of Minnesota and now works as a foreman and carpenter for Krupp General Contractors in Madison.

WEDDING

Kizilbash

Mr. and Mrs. Jeffery and Brenda Lee (Johnson) Kizilbash of Riverside were married June 28, 2008, at Community House in Hinsdale.

The bride is the daughter of Conchi Johnson of Hinsdale and Dennis Johnson and Barbara Schally, both of Darien. She graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in psychology in 1993. She works as a marketing manager for the office of gift planning at the University of Chicago.

The bridegroom is the son of Daina Kizilbash and the late Askari H. Kizilbash of DeKalb. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1997 from the College of Commerce. He works as director of program and project management fro Sears Home Services in Hoffman Estates.

A reception was held at Community House in Hinsdale. The couple took a trip to Aruba to celebrate and currently live in Riverside.
