Sycamore UMC to host Truman's Ridge concert

Sycamore United Methodist Church will host traditional bluegrass and gospel music at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Truman’s Ridge, an area band that has performed at various community venues in the county, will perform.

The band consists of Doris Clayton, Mark Fowler, Steven Sarver, and Bruce Wallace. Wallace is the son of SUMC members Marla and D. Wallace.

The public is invited and asked to bring a lawn chair or blanket. The concert will be moved inside in case of inclement weather.

The public also is invited to the church’s Saturday Celebration worship service at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary, and a 6 p.m. picnic supper sponsored by the youth of the church. The profits of the meal will help fund the group’s summer mission trip to an Indian reservation in Montana.

The Truman’s Ridge concert is part of a continuing series made possible by a bequest from longtime SUMC choir member Jessie Viner. The next event will feature Mitch McVickers, who will lead the 5 p.m. Saturday celebration service on July 11.

The church is located at 160 Johnson Ave. in Sycamore, off Route 64. For questions about the concerts or more information about the 12 active music groups at the church, call music director Bev Rauch at 815-895-9113, ext. 106.
