Three men charged with stealing items from vehicle

By Daily Chronicle

Three area men were charged Thursday with two counts of burglary to a motor vehicle for reportedly taking items out of a car in Sandwich.

Dale R. Defenbaugh, 21, of Sandwich, and Ryan A. Fivecoat, 19 and Marcus G. Taylor, 21, both of Yorkville, were arrested Wednesday following a traffic stop in Aurora, according to a written statement from the Sandwich Police Department.

Aurora police contacted their counterparts in Sandwich to determine if the driver of the vehicle had permission from the owner, who is a Sandwich resident. Although authorities determined the three men had permission to be driving the vehicle, Sandwich police identified items in the vehicle that were reported stolen from another car in Sandwich, according to the written statement.

Many of the found items have been identified by the owners who had reported them stolen, according to police, but authorities are continuing to investigate.

Bail was set at $5,000 for each man during a Thursday morning hearing at the DeKalb County Courthouse. The public defender was appointed to represent Defenbaugh, while other attorneys were appointed to represent Fivecoat and Taylor.

Burglary is a Class 2 felony and is punishable by up to seven years in prison.
