The Voluntary Action Center recently held its fourth annual Volunteer Appreciation Reception. The event, which recognized volunteers for their many contributions to VAC, had between 175-200 people in attendance.

“The reception is a small token of our appreciation for all that the volunteers do for the Voluntary Action Center,” said Ron Mullen, Meals on Wheels coordinator, in a recent news release.

The Voluntary Action Center honored National Bank & Trust Co. for its dedication to the community and its generous support of VAC; NB&T is the premier sponsor of all VAC events this year.

“NB&T is committed to maintaining the quality of life in DeKalb County, especially given these difficult economic times,” said Tami Armstrong, marketing director of NB&T, in the release. “VAC plays an important role in providing much-needed transportation and meals to residents in need and we are proud of our association with them and pleased to have been a financial partner as they continue to grow in service to our communities.”

Also honored for their generous support were the city of Sycamore, Kishwaukee Health Systems, Sheriff Roger Scott of DeKalb County and Christel Springmire of the DeKalb County Health Department.

Last year, VAC introduced a new award to those dedicated to the mission of the Voluntary Action Center. Opportunity House was the first recipient, and this year, Community Coordinated Child Care, State Sen. Brad Burzynski, and State Rep. Bob Pritchard joined the list.

Also recognized for their service were Gilby and Pat Mehagan, Lydia Johnson and DeKalb-area Realtors. John Garmen and Pat Carlson were honored for their service to the Sycamore Hi-Rise, along with Cliff McConnell from MedVAC and Bev Waite from the Voluntary Action Center’s board.
