Kish Rotary donates to Kishwaukee College

Trica Wagner of the adult education department at Kishwaukee College presented at the regular weekly meeting of the Kishwaukee Sunrise Rotary.

Wagner spoke to the club about the services offered by college’s adult education department and, in particular, the Textbook Loan Program. The Textbook Loan Program is an efficient, cost-effective and innovative way to assist students who struggle to afford an education, as described in a recent news release.

This program was selected by the Illinois Board of Higher Education as an innovative and effective strategy to address the increasing costs of textbooks. Other institutions have contacted the college with an interest in modeling this program. In an effort to help the adult education department continue and expand its services, the Kishwaukee Sunrise Rotary presented Wagner with a check for $1,000 to be used for the Textbook Loan Program.

Chartered in 1991 and comprised of members of the DeKalb and Sycamore business community, the Kishwaukee Sunrise Rotary Club meets at 7 a.m. Tuesdays at Kishwaukee Community Hospital.

The club is active with many service projects both in DeKalb County and worldwide. Local service projects of the club include hosting the Sunrise Rotary 8K, delivery of Meals on Wheels, Bowl for Kids Sake and sponsoring scholarships for Sycamore and DeKalb High School graduating seniors. On a worldwide level, the club is active in sponsoring both inbound and outbound exchange students.

The Kishwaukee Sunrise Rotary was also instrumental in starting a Costa Rica Well Project, in which local rotarians traveled to Costa Rica and participated in digging wells near area schools.
