Pork chop barbecue: Pickup hours: 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Evangelical Free Church, North First Street and Bethany Road in DeKalb. Love INC of DeKalb-Sycamore is hosting a pork chop barbecue, with Whitman’s Catering and Party Rental providing the food. The carryout meals will include two pork chops, apple sauce, baked beans, potato salad, roll and butter. Pop and water will be available for purchase. Tickets can be purchased at the church or at the Love INC office at 151 W. Lincoln Highway in DeKalb. Cost for the meals is $10 prepaid or $12 at the door.
Salad luncheon/quilt show: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday at St. James parish center, 231 W. Kirke Gate in Lee. Everyone is welcome to attend St. James Altar and Rosary Society’s 27th annual salad luncheon, card party and quilt show. This will be the first year of the quilt show, which will be held from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m., with quilts displayed over the pews in the church. Raffles, door prizes and cards will follow the luncheon. Suggested donations are $7 for adults; $3.50 for children ages 5-12; no donations accepted for children younger than age 5. Cookbooks will cost $10 each or two for $15.
Knights of Columbus Friday Night Fish Fry: 5:30-7:30 p.m. Fridays at DeKalb Knights of Columbus Club, 1336 E. Lincoln Highway. Contact: Sam Dvorak, Knights of Columbus Club manager, at 815-758 4141. The event is open to the public.
Fish Fry: 5-8 p.m. third Friday each month, Maple Park American Legion Hall, 203 Main St. The meal costs $9 for adults and $7 for seniors and is free for children 6 and younger. The American Legion Hall’s banquet hall is available for rent to the public. For information, call Don Regole at 815-286-7411.
Country Breakfast: 7-10:30 a.m. third Saturday each month at Trinity Lutheran Church, 303 S. Seventh St. in DeKalb. The public is welcome at an all-you-can-eat full breakfast of pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, hash browns and biscuits and gravy. Donations are $6 for adults and $4 for children, ages 4-8. The meal is free for children 3 and younger.
Saturday Burgers: 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays at DeKalb Knights of Columbus Club, 1336 E. Lincoln Highway. Contact: Sam Dvorak, Knights of Columbus Club manager, at 815-758 4141. Menu includes third-pound beef burgers, fries, onion rings, mushrooms, potato skins, soup or chili in season. Lunch is open to the public.
Burger buffet: Noon-2 p.m. Saturdays at Genoa Veterans Home, 311 S. Washington St. Cost is $2.75 for a hamburger or cheeseburger with chips or $4 for the sandwich and buffet, which includes potato salad, macaroni salad and beans. Proceeds help fund community projects and scholarships.
VFW breakfast: Third Sunday each month at Genoa Veterans Home, 311 S. Washington St. The all-you-can-eat menu costs $6, is free for children younger than 6 and includes scrambled eggs, french toast, biscuits and gravy, chipped beef and fruit cocktail.
Greek Fest: 11 a.m.-9 p.m. June 27 and June 28 at Hopkins Park Shelter House, Route 23/Sycamore Road in DeKalb. The public is invited to sample all kinds of authentic Greek foods and sweet pastries, at the park or take out dinners, and watch Greek dancing with Ellas Dance Troup performances daily. An arts and crafts fair is planned this year.
Sunday breakfast: 7-11 a.m. fourth Sunday each month at Sycamore Veterans Memorial Home, 121 S. California St. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12. The public is welcome to attend all-you-can-eat breakfasts, which include eggs cooked to order, biscuits and gravy, hash browns, sausage, pancakes, french toast, toast and coffee, milk or juice.

The Shabbona Lions Club annual Fourth of July Pork Chop barbecue: 4:30-7 p.m. July 4 at Lions Depot, which is located under the Shabbona water tower. A one-chop dinner costs $7 and two chop dinner is $9. Drive-thru pick up will be available. 815-970-1179.
