Annual run to raise scholarship funds

The third annual running of the Brett’s Run Genoa Days 5K Race will memorialize Brett Kubasiak, the son of Tom and Cathy Kubasiak, long-time residents of the Genoa-Kingston area, who was killed in 1997 by a car while the boy was playing with friends.

Created to honor Brett’s memory, the run will raise money for the Brett Kubasiak Memorial Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to graduating G-K High School students. Last year, nearly 400 runners and walkers participated, raising approximately $9,000 for scholarships.

The 5K course starts at the Genoa-Kingston High School, winds through the Riverbend and Willow Glen subdivisions – crossing the Kishwaukee River over the pedestrian bridge – and returns to the high school. Awards will be presented to the winners in each of several age categories for both men and women.

Registration is $25. Registration forms, sponsor forms and more details are available at www.brettsrun.org.
