CCA class of 2009 is school's largest ever

On May 22, Cornerstone Christian Academy in Sycamore celebrated its eighth year of graduating high school students by recognizing the class of 2009, its largest-ever graduating class of 18 students.

Three of those students, Jane Pearre, Brad McGee and Tracy Allighen, attended CCA since preschool. The CCA high school has been educating DeKalb County students with a biblical world view for more than a decade and has been a presence in the community for 33 years.

CCA is accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International and is a college preparatory high school; all 18 graduates are going on to a college or university next year.

CCA leads all other high schools in the county with more than 92 percent of its past graduates going on to a college or university, according to a recent news release. Another 6 percent are serving in the military.

With more than 45 course selections on site, including AP and honors, two of these courses can be taken for dual credit, plus at least another 25 courses offered online, including AP and dual credit courses, the high school has a lot of course selection for its students. On site at CCA, the average class size is 14. The athletic program has seven competition teams to offer to its student body.

CCA High School principal Drew Whitfield congratulates Bora Shin of Seoul, Korea on her accomplishment: having attended CCA for the past two years.

This past year, CCA had two Korean students and two Czech Republic students within its student body.

Bora’s hosting parents were Paul and Hayeon Rogers of Sycamore.

“It was a great experience having Bora in our home during the last two school years,” Paul Rogers said in the release. “During that time, she and our family developed a wonderful friendship. We saw Bora grow academically, interpersonally and spiritually as a result of her time with us, and we are grateful for the opportunity to have her in our home. We will miss her a lot.”
