Barb City Manor names Ursula Sarver its 'Volunteer of the Year'

The Barb City Manor Inc. Board of Directors named Ursula Sarver its “Volunteer of the Year” for the manor’s auxiliary, Friends of Barb City Manor.

The Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes a member of Friends of Barb City Manor who has shown outstanding dedication and service over the years. Sarver has been a member of Friends of Barb City Manor for more than 10 years and has given hours of volunteer time in many areas to benefit the residents and staff of Barb City Manor.

Sarver helps patrons in the gift and resale shop, where she works each month. She also helps with mailings sent out by Barb City Manor. She and her husband, Bob, volunteer each year in serving ice cream and lemonade at Barb City Manor’s annual ice cream social. Sarver is also a regular volunteer at Friends of Barb City Manor’s monthly birthday parties and at the annual Christmas party, helping serve cookies and punch and being ready to help clean up after any event. She also can be found at Oktoberfest celebrations.

Ouside her work at Barb City Manor, Sarver is a very active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church with Sunday school, vacation Bible school and organizing funeral luncheons. She also serves on the steering committee of the DeKalb Farm Bureau Prime Timers. She also loves to share her German heritage with school children and helps people translate letters that are in German.

Sarver and her husband also love to travel. She has three daughters, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She spent her time rearing her family and working outside the home at many different jobs, with her last being in charge of the NIU bakery.

The award was presented to Sarver at the 28th annual “Thank You Dinner,” held April 28 for all members of Friends of Barb City Manor to thank them for their dedication, service and time throughout the past year. Members of the board of directors served a dinner to the group, after which group president Christine Monteiro made a presentation.
