SANDWICH – Two men remain jailed after being charged during the weekend with firing a gun into the air.

Cassidy Green, 21, of Sandwich, and Timothy Shepherd, 30, of LaSalle, were charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a weapon by a felon.

Bond was set Monday at $50,000 for Green, who is next due in court June 24, and at $75,000 for Shepherd, who is next due in court Thursday.

Sandwich Police Chief Rick Olson said police were called Sunday by a concerned resident who had seen the gun and "thought we needed to know about it." Officers went to a residence in the 300 block of Wilshire Drive in reference to a report of a loaded revolver that has been confiscated by a female, according to court documents.

Both men were believed to have handled the gun when not on their own property, Olson said. In Illinois, it is illegal to carry a concealed weapon unless at a private residences or business. The gun was reported stolen in Michigan, according to court documents. A witness told police that Shepherd pointed the gun at her, according to court documents.

It is believed the revolver was discharged, Olson said. The gun was fired in the air in the city, he said, but was not pointed at anyone. Olson was not sure when or where the gun had been fired.

Green also was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver after police found six individually wrapped bags of marijuana on him, according to court documents.
