SHABBONA – Indian Creek High School senior class president Megan Davis encouraged her classmates Sunday to be like Buddha and seek their own version of nirvana – not the band, she noted.

"He conquered pain and conflict," Davis told her classmates as she welcomed them to the high school's graduation ceremony.

Seventy-eight students graduated from Indian Creek Sunday, including two valedictorians, Devin Post and Tamara Wessels.

"Today isn't about the speakers and what we choose to say," Post said. "It isn't my day, it's our day, the class of 2009. ...I keep thinking this is the end, the finish line. But in reality it's only the end of the beginning."

The high school band performed "Ritual and Capriccio" by Jared Spears and the choir sang an arrangement of "Shot de Do" by Randy Stonehill.

Salutatorian Lori Korth told her classmates the future will hold pain as well as joy, and they should not be afraid of it.

"The smiles we share today reflect not only the laughter, but also the pain that has made us the people we are today," she said. "Don't be afraid to fail, because failure leads to success. Discover your passion and don't be afraid to follow it."
