Memorial Day events
Sunday
A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. at the Northern Illinois Veterans Memorial at Franklin Township Park on South Street in Kirkland.
Monday
Sycamore
A service at Joiner Cemetery, on West Old State Road between Five Points Road and Route 64, will begin at 8:15 a.m.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5768 service will begin at 10 a.m. at the Sycamore Veterans Home, 321 S. California St. The parade will step off from the home at 10:45 a.m. and will end at Elmwood Cemetery.
Maple Park
A Memorial Day Mass at St. Mary of the Assumption Church will begin at 8 a.m., followed by a cemetery prayer service.
A program is scheduled to begin at 9:10 a.m. in six locations in the Maple Park area. Another program is scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m.
DeKalb
Lincoln Highway between First and Fourth streets will be closed to traffic and parking from 8-9:30 a.m. A service at Memorial Park will begin at 8:30 a.m. The parade will step off at 9 a.m. and will end at Ellwood House, 509 N. First St., where a program is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. A veterans reception will follow.
Lee
A program will begin at 8:30 a.m.
Shabbona
A program will begin at 8:30 a.m.
Hinckley
A program will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Community Building, 120 Maple St.
Kaneville
A program will begin at 10 a.m. at the David Werdin Community Center, 2S101 Harter Road, and will end at Kaneville Cemetery.
Kingston
A program will begin at 10 a.m.
Malta
A program will begin at 10 a.m. at Malta United Methodist Church, at the corner of Sprague and Third streets. The service will end at the Malta Township Library, at the corner of South Second and Adams streets.
Creston
A service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at Creston Woodlawn Cemetery on North Woodlawn Road. In inclement weather, the program will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, 122 E. South St.
Sandwich
A program at Veterans Park, across from City Hall, will begin at 11 a.m. A program at Oak Ridge Cemetery on Suydam Road is scheduled to begin at 11:20 a.m., followed by a service at St. Paul's Cemetery.
Waterman
A program will begin at 11 a.m. at Lions Park on South Birch Street.
Genoa
A program will begin at noon in Veterans Park at Genoa Cemetery, at the corner of Sycamore and Hill streets. The annual parade has been canceled due to lack of interest, event organizers said, and because of the declining number of veterans able to take part in it.
