'Gathering of Elizabeths' seeks to set new world record
By Chronicle Staff
Organizers of the second annual "Gathering of Elizabeths" are seeking to break the world record they set last year for the largest number of people named Elizabeth gathered in one place, according to a written statement from the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.
Last year, 436 people sharing the name gathered for the first event in Elizabeth, near Galena in Jo Daviess. The Elizabeths ranged in age from 9 to 87 and came from 128 cities in eight states, the statement said.
This year's gathering is scheduled for June 27 and will be held at the historic Apple River Fort in Elizabeth. The town is named for several of its original settlers who all shared the name. For more information, visit www.mostelizabeths.com.
