Diva's Dish a great success

To the editor:

On behalf of the board of directors of the Joseph F. Glidden Homestead & Historical Center, DeKalb, thank you to everyone who helped make our first-ever Divas Dish Grandma’s Secret Recipes a smashing success on April 25!

We are grateful to an enthusiastic and energetic committee, to our creative celebrity women chefs and to the community for supporting Diva’s Dish. Our 35 chefs found unique ways to showcase and share long-standing family recipes. We could not have pulled off this superb night without the help of Ellen Rogers and her staff at Premier Meals/Voluntary Action Center; along with Maranda Graybeal and her staff at NIU’s Barsema Alumni and Visitors Center.

Major sponsors helped support the event, including the Chronicle News Group and Mason Properties/Annie G’s Restaurant. Other sponsors were AIM Immediate Care, American National Bank of DeKalb County, Castle Bank NA, Creative Therapeutics, Drs. Steven and Michele Glasgow, Midwest Orthopaedic Institute, National Bank & Trust Co., OC Imageworks and Waste Management West. In addition, Kishwaukee College, KishHealth Systems, and Taxco Mexican Restaurant contributed goods or services to help the fundraiser.

Thanks also to Silent Auction donors who generously provided items for the event: CCC Consulting (Michael Henry), Svetlana Henrikson, JJ Marshall Landscape Creations, Kishwaukee Kiwanis, Bill Koehring, Maid Day Services, New Traditions, Noble Fools Theatricals at Pheasant Run, Pierce Harley Davidson, DeKalb Park District’s River Heights Golf Course, Studio One, Sweet Dream Desserts & Catering, Tastefully Simple, The Mower Medic, VAC Premier Meals & Catering, Wal-Mart, Gayle Wuori, Aldi Foods, and Kishwaukee Community Hospital.

Raffle items were donated by Barry Haber, Caribou Coffee, Cracker Jax, Debbie’s Dance Dimensions, Egg Haven, Junction Eating Place, LePrint Express, Lovell’s Discount Tires, Pizza Villa, Ruby Tuesdays, Sports of All Sorts, Stage Coach Players, The Matador, Waterman Winery and Yen Ching.

Everyone from our celebrity chefs to our sponsors and event participants agree we should make Divas Dish an annual fund-raiser to benefit the Glidden Homestead, and so we are already planning next spring’s event. Watch for details at www.gliddenhomestead.org.

As DeKalb’s first site named to the National Register of Historic Places, the Glidden Homestead is dedicated to preserving and improving the site where Joseph F. Glidden invented “The Winner” barbed wire in 1874. Visit us at 921 W. Lincoln Highway, DeKalb, at one of our many events this summer, and thank you again for your support.
