University of Illinois Extension’s program, “How to Avoid Marrying a Jerk or Jerkette,” will help singles focus on the crucial details one must gather before choosing a life partner, according to a recent newsletter.
The three-part relationship education series designed for adults, young or older, seeking or in between romantic relationships, will be taught by family-life educator Betty Lou Barsley-Marra.
In the release, John Horn, DeKalb County U of I director, said, “What makes this program different from popular advice books is that it is research based and presented with humor.”
Participants will not have to tell their relationship horror stories. Students can just listen, or comment and ask questions, if they choose.
The class can also offer advice for happily attached couples.
Through activities and discussions, participants will gain the skills to really get to know partners and for predicting what romantic partners will be like in marriage.
Children who have lived through their parents’ divorces often fear commitment when they reach adulthood. Single parents can bring young adult children, age 18 and older, to the class at no extra charge.
Registration fee, $50, covers all three sessions and materials.
